About us

Bo’s Beach Cafe & Bar was established in 2001 by the Sherring family.

Ben and Kim (Bo) first met each other at the Old Lifeboat House back in the Summer of 1999.

They both had experience in Hospitality & Tourism for many years and had dreamed of having their own laid back, chilled venue on the Beach, which became true two years later.

What started off as a Beach shop selling hot drinks from “Ernie” the urn and Ice creams has now blossomed into the Cafe Bar you see today offering freshly prepared comfort food, local produce, and local beers, ciders & cocktails!

Where better to enjoy our renowned pizzas sat on our slipway with the high tide lapping underneath your feet!

We are proud to say that we have been very lucky over the last 23 years to have had a fantastic local team behind us. This includes our two amazing daughters Morgan and Summer who have grown up with South Sands being their adventure playground.

Bo’s is open everyday (weather permitting) throughout our Season which normally runs from April through to November

History

The Original RNLI Salcombe life boat house was officially opened in 1870 and housed the first Lifeboat in Salcombe “The Rescue”. The Dutch Colonial Revival Style architecture is clear to see and is what makes this building very special.

The building was in service up until 1925 when the Lifeboat moved in to Salcombe town centre with the introduction of diesel engines and more efficient boat design.

We have a history wall in the Boathouse with photographic evidence of back in the day!
